He Qualifies Those He Calls

As partners with Christ and co- heirs, our posture toward the battle changes. We begin to ask, “What are my orders, God? What would You have me do?”

We say, like Moses said, like Abram said, like Isaiah said, like Samuel said, “Hineni.”

Hineni is the Hebrew word for “Here I am. Send me,” or “Here I am, your servant is listening!” It expresses total readiness and availability to respond to God’s call. It’s a willingness to fulfill any task assigned to them.

The key phrase in that sentence is “assigned to them.” We bring the Kingdom of God to bear in the area of our callings that have been entrusted to us.

We say hineni even if where He asks us to go feels way over our head. It’s okay to feel that way. It’s actually probably a good thing. It helps us to stay humble and rely on Him.

Remember Judges 6:12? “When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, ‘The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.’ ” Gideon was fearful, creating a hiding place for himself from the enemy. He certainly didn’t look like a warrior. He certainly wasn’t acting like one! But God sees differently than we do. He sees the heart. He sees what is most true. Exodus 4:10–12 reminds us that God does not call the qualified; He qualifies those He calls.

God sees who we truly are, just as He saw who Gideon was. He sees who we are going to be. We are safe to follow Him. He is faithful to equip us.
