We are a worshipping Bride. We are also a warring one. And we have been bestowed with the authority of Jesus to move in victory, taking back the ground the enemy has stolen and moving into the terrains where we have been called.
I know that I am not alone in being attacked by the enemy on a regular basis. Spiritual warfare is a part of all our lives. It comes with the territory of living in this fallen world. Being a Christian puts a target on your back. You live in the crosshairs of war. Part of our being the bride of Christ means that we learn to stand in our God- given authority and judge spiritual attacks in all their forms, be freed from them, and walk in the power of Jesus.
Now, don’t run or react internally by pulling away. “You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”
We want to know God. We want to know Him by heart. We want to draw close. We want to be women of One Thing. As we delve into knowing God through our steadfast focus, our souls rest in both who He is and in who we are, and a realm of authority beyond the ordinary unfolds. But every movement toward life is opposed.
Friends, I love Psalm 23 just like the rest of us, and knowing God as our Shepherd is one of the glories of our lives. But the “still waters” spoken of in the psalm is used only one time in the Psalms, while the illustration of war is used more than a hundred.
Something inside all of us resists the thought that more may be required of us. You’re tired. I know. But God is not, and it is His life that moves in and through us. We are called to resist the evil one. We are called to stand firm. As the bride of Christ, we are called to partner with Him. He will equip us. He is the Warrior King, our Captain, the God of angel armies. The greatest battle now is over our hearts and the hearts of others. “God is at war for the love of your heart.” As a warring bride, wielding the authority of Christ, living as His counterpart, we join Him in the fight.
