Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8)
We are created in an intimate way, through touch and breath. Shaped. Every detail attended to. God got down in the dirt with us, and He has never stopped. We weren’t left as dust or dirt alone. As God’s clay, we are fashioned and refashioned by the fingertips of Yahweh Himself.
You and I are being molded like clay by a Master Potter into the unique design He has had in mind since before the beginning of time. With utter attention to detail, our inmost being and our outward expressions of our God, both soulfully and tangibly, continue to be formed. As we press on in our walk with Christ, we are being transformed into His very image, crafted intentionally in who we are and how we carry Him. Friends, being clay is no lowly thing. Let’s explore this marvelous reality honoring our relationship to our great God as His great work— in fact, as His masterpiece.

Clay under the guiding hands of a master potter can become an object of exquisite beauty, but clay must yield to the potter, and it’s a messy process, and if you are the clay, it can be a painful one.
Clay needs preparation in order to become what the potter has in mind; the process is necessary.
Our choice as clay is to trust our God and yield to His intentions, knowing that He is always, always working for our good.
