Meant to Know Love

Your life, as you know, is a story. “Story work” has become a staple in most healing communities, including the church. This is good; this is very hopeful. “Tell me your story” isn’t only the province of therapists; it is what any friend offers another. In order to know and be known, we explore the story of our lives. But to be more specific, at its core, your story is a story of love.

It’s a story of how you have been treated and what you have come to believe about yourself, others, and God as a result. It’s a compilation of stories, really, adding to the complex and beautiful human being that you are. For most of us, the stories surrounding what we have come to know and believe about love are a mixed bag. What’s inside that bag can prevent many of us not only from being able to ascend the Ladder of Love of increasing intimacy with our God, but it can keep us from even wanting to.

We are meant to be loved; we are created for love and by love. Somewhere deep inside, we intuit this. We are meant to know love, rest in it, and live securely, surrounded by its safety and assurance.
