The Blood of Christ
The Blood of Jesus Christ is probably the most sacred of all the treasures in the Kingdom of God, in heaven and on earth. It purchased our salvation, it cleanses us of sin, it breaks the powers of the enemy’s hold on us. It sanctifies the soul, it cleanses memories, and it is a powerful weapon against the many poisons and toxins used by the kingdom of darkness against the saints.
It has come at last—salvation and power
and the Kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth—
the one who accuses them
before our God day and night.
And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.
And they did not love their lives so much
that they were afraid to die. (Revelation 12:10–11)
This is the great anthem that goes up in heaven at the overthrow of Satan and his forces. It declares that we, the sons and daughters of God, overcome the evil one and his forces by the Blood of Jesus, the power of our testimony, and our refusal to fear death. I’d like to focus on the first of these, the Blood of the Lamb, for a moment.
The mystic understands that the Blood of Jesus is a very real substance—as real as the table in front of you, the coffee cup sitting on the table, and the coffee in the cup. We might not see it—it is part of the unseen realm now—but it exists, and we are urged to draw upon it in our need.
Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? (1 Corinthians 10:16, emphasis added)
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:7, emphasis added)
