Being Sons prayerfully crafts and guides experiences with God that awaken and equip men to live the life they are uniquely created to live. These include year round campfire fellowships for men that we call "Fight Clubs," as well as age- and gender-specific "Fathering Adventures" designed to invite and equip fathers to walk with God in raising their sons and daughters up into whole-hearted maturity and their unique Kingdom calling. Being Sons partners intimately with the Alamo Band of Brothers in hosting Men's BASIC and ADVANCED Boot Camps.

Everyone has a role in this world and Jay Heck has unequivocally found his. On the Beings Sons web site it states “ we help men live the life God intended”, and that is what Being Sons and Jay Heck does. I have attended: Boot Camps, Advanced Camps, First tracks with my youngest son, Trail Head with my oldest son and several camp fires with Jay. Every event has help guide me to a more authentic life as a son of God. Both of my sons walked away from their respective events changed and filled with joy. The impact these events have had on my life cannot be overstated. I have been slowly transformed into a more authentic man of God, a better husband and father and I have seen the same effect on many other men as well. I am close friends with many men and their sons that have attended First tracks and Trailhead. I have seen and experienced the positive and transformative effect of these events. It is clear that Jay’s style of of teaching men how to live a life as a son, is anointed. But a word of caution. Jay and Being Sons is not about a “quick fix” it is about learning and growing closer to Jesus. It is about process, its about the transformation of hearts. I highly recommend attending one of these events and listening to Jay’s pod cast! Geoff Smith

I had the privilege of attending the inaugural Trailhead expedition for fathers and sons 14+ on the Pecos river in March 2021. This was a four-day camping and rowing trip. I can't say enough good things it and Jay. Yes, the scenery/camping was beautiful. But more importantly this is/will be a pivotal trip for my relationship with my son, my son's relationship with Jesus, and my own with Jesus. I was looking for something to initiate his journey to manhood and our journey together "being sons". I not only got this, but through it, God healed some of my own broken, unfathered places. On top of this, I developed a friendship with Jay who has an incredible heart. I didn't know much about the ministry or Jay when I registered, but no regrets. My only complaint is that there's not enough to go around. When signups go up... sign up right away. Spots are elusive.

Jay and Being Sons events, podcasts, and groups have helped guide my walk with the Father. We were inspired by Jay to start a Fight Club in Idaho and we were so blessed to be able to access training and other community from Being Sons to help us along the way. Jay is a true servant who gives and teaches from a full well of experience and lives every bit of what he teaches!

My daughter and I attended the latest First Bloom event that Being Sons hosted this last weekend. What a fabulous event! My daughter is still glowing days after the event and I am still drinking in the goodness of the weekend. My daughter and I connected in new and fresh ways and the Father fathered me in some very unfathered and uninitiated places throughout the weekend. Jay is a fabulous minister of God's love and mercy. I would highly, highly recommend attending any and all of the events that Beings Sons hosts as well as availing yourself to the great resources that Jay puts out through Being Sons -- podcasts, videos, trainings, etc. Be warned, if you're looking to attend the next First Bloom event, sign up quickly as my daughter and I will be taking one of the spots as soon as it is published.

I recently went to a First Tracks event Jay hosted with my son - what a great event, that will pay dividends over the next decade. Jay runs a first rate event that is well run and organized. I learned a lot about being not only a father, and also a son, and my son was blessed, affirmed, he learned, he made some friends, and he had a lot of fun. Highly recommend Being Sons and Jay and I would definitely do, and will do another event with Being Sons in the future.

I just returned from First Tracks an event by Being Sons founder Jay Heck. My son and I were so deeply blessed by this anointed brother who has a passion for connecting the hearts of fathers to their kids. My son had a blast and I found the training, setting and adventures a great environment for a deepening relationship with my son. This event didn't solve all our problems, but it is a deep important step towards healing and connection that we needed. It was a joy to see Jay living out his God given call, he is passionate and gifted for this work and he walks deeply the Wild at Heart message himself. I highly recommend Being Sons!!!!!!!

I took my 10 year old daughter to First Bloom about a month ago. Wow! Talk about an amazing adventure (biking, repelling, rock climbing, camp fires, launching glow sticks.....AMAZING) I could share with her and speak in to her the love I feel so deep down but often have difficulty expressing. I got some much needed one on one time, much free time with her, the ability to drive together...alone... and pour in to my lovely daughter. She and I adore one another and Jay helped us go further. Thank you Being Sons and Jay for such an amazing experience. Ryah has asked many times when we can go back and my younger daughter cannot wait till next year so she can attend.

Bring my daughter from Wisconsin to Texas to experience First Bloom was an amazing experience and worth its weight in love. Its was an opportunity to not only tell her that I love her but to truly show that I love her by investing in her.

I have taken 2 of my sons (Alex 13, Reid 10) on a First Tracks now, and it has transformed our relationships!!! I can not say enough things about this weekend experience. Worth every penny of the expense and the investment of time. Jay is truly anointed for this ministry! And both times the Father came after my heart and brought much needed love to me :)

I have been to First Bloom twice now, both with my 13 year old and my 9 year old. Both weekends were absolutely phenomonal! They provided meaningful points of connection for me and each of my daughters. The weekend is filled with God's presence, and is exceptionally well-planned and executed. Both experiences were a blessing for me, reminding me of what my daughters need from me as a father and providing me with the reassurance that I am not alone in this process. God is ever-present, ready to father me as I father them in each circumstance. Both girls view it as a treasured experience in our relationship. My youngest is wanting to go back, and I plan to take her. Jay's heart is to eventually have a similar excursion for fathers and daughters 14-18. When he does, my oldest and I will be there.

Jay and his family are a great crew. We love them. I have taken my 13 year old daughter to First Bloom and my 12 y/o son to First Tracks. I have known Jay for a couple of years and am amazed at what God has done through him and his family. Jay gave a group of us a description of what the dream was God had put on his heart as he launched Being Sons, my heart swelled with hope as I read what he felt led to create. When I got to take my kids away for the weekend with Jay we had a life changing time together. It was fun, and I was able to leave many fears about fathering there. Jay is a great teacher. The facility and the the activities were amazing. It was worth much more than I paid to go. Well done Heck family.

Jay is the real deal. Authentic in every way. You want to find God, you want to rescue your marriage, you want to hear God's voice? Jay is a humble guide to the heart of God. Go for it. If your reading this and your heart is picking up a tick and starting to thump, -- well its time --Your probably sensing God drawing you near. Time is now! It is not too late to be a Son!

this weekend was not what I expected, it was way more on every level. I thought this was a mini Boot Camp for the Sons when it was a fathers boot camp as well. This weekend opened up a whole new area for me and I am blessed beyond my wildest imagination. I have already shared all the information with others and look forward to what they continue to offer. Amazing weekend with an amazing message and an amazing family put on the event. This exceeded my expectations by more than words can say. thanks you!

Two things that made this weekend really special: First, as a dad to four daughters, I find the need to break out of the busyness and spend intentional time with each one individually. This weekend provided the perfect opportunity to pour specifically into my 11 year old and pursue her heart as a unique individual. We adventured, laughed, stretched our limits, spoke of the deeper things in life and created memories that will last forever. Secondly, the content of the weekend served a reminder of just how critical dad's involvement is in the life of his girl and what an honor it is to be entrusted with such a role. I came away supercharged and encouraged. The doors that opened in our relationship as a result have led to deeper talks and a place from which to shepherd her heart.

Participated in First Bloom at Camp Eagle with my 12 year old daughter Susanna. Jay did a fantastic job making this a weekend to remember. Suze and I have a great relationship, but with busy lives, school and sports I know I don’t take enough time to have special one on one time with her. First Bloom was a great punctuation mark....a celebration of what Dads and their daughters should be. It formalized in a very tangible way what Suzie knows to be true....that I love her dearly....and created a fantastic memory for the both of us. I thinks it’s easy to feel a little helpless and hopeless as Dads sometimes when it comes to connecting with our kids. First Bloom was a blessing and will be a blessing to anyone who wants that connection. The great thing is Jay does all the heavy lifting. Just show up and enjoy God’s goodness!

WOW!!! To say that my expectations were exceeded is an understatement. I prayed for God to show up in a big way, and He did not disappoint. I am eternally grateful for Jay Heck and crew for orchestrating a divine appointment needed for both my son and I. From the adventures we took, public confirming him, and quiet time I had with the Lord and my son is a memory that both Nick and I will cherish for the rest of our lives. Besides the day I married my bride, and birth of my children, the experience we had together made the top 5 moments of my life! Praise to God! Thank you Jay Heck and your amazing team!

I first attended a Basic Boot Camp hosted by Alamo Band of Brothers (ABOB) in November 2008, where Jay Heck was one of the leaders. Since then I have attended a second basic boot camp hosted by ABOB, where a friend joined me, and I attended a Wild at Heart Advanced Boot Camp with the men of ABOB. All of that was a lead-in to my most recent event with Jay Heck, the inaugural First Tracks father/son adventure that he is doing with through his new ministry, Being Sons. (In the interest of full disclosure, I am married to Jay Heck's cousin.) I went with faith that Jay would lead a phenomenal event, and I was not disappointed. The weekend was a memorable time of bonding with my seven year old son. He was sad to leave and was asking when we were going back to Camp Eagle. Jay and the counselors at Camp Eagle did a great job of encouraging my son and helping him to overcome his fears. I would recommend this event to any father who desires to build a deeper relationship with his son, and receive encouragement on raising a son to become a Warrior for Christ.

In the spirit of full disclosure, Jay Heck is my cousin. In that role, I have known him a very long time. :) I have seen him grow into an amazing, Godly man accepting the call to lead his family and mentor other men. Attending Wild at Heart Boot Camps has only renewed and reinforced that passion. I have been blessed watching him grow into the man God designed for him to be. His involvement with Wild at Heart let to my husband attending several Boot Camp weekends and encouraging him to embrace the role God has placed upon him to lead our family in the same way. My husband and 7 year old son recently attended a Being Son's weekend. My son came back and was so excited to tell me that he conquered a fear during a rock climbing event and couldn't wait to use his fire starter again. He loves camping outdoors with my husband and calls it an adventure. As a mom of soon to be two boys, I am blessed to know that we have a resource to encourage all of them as they grow into the Godly men they are designed to become. I see the desperate need our world has for groups such as Being Sons to heal men who then are able to raise their boys the way God intended. I wholeheartedly support Jay and his mission to provide that resource and will support him in any way possible to continue this mission God has charged him to lead.

I've read most of the books about raising sons but nothing compared to the weekend I spent with my son at "First Tracks" purposefully beginning the journey with him. It was encouraging for me as a father to see other dads in the fight for their sons. I also feel better equipped to take on this important task and adventure as Jay Heck poured into us and led us on this path. My son and I are better for it and God was honored and glorified. I will be bringing my other sons to the next ones.

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I signed up for this event; my hope was to have some sort of inaugural event to begin my 9 yr old son's journey into manhood. I got that and so much more! The event was fantastic, and Jay and his family did a fantastic job of putting this on. The entire weekend was well planned, with a good mix of father-son activities, free time, and instruction in the ways of fatherhood. I left the weekend with a good idea of how to spend the next several years raising my son into a man, and I look forward to more offerings from Being Sons in the future!

I spent the last weekend at the First Tracks manhood basecamp with my 10 year old son and words don't describe how great the experience was for both of us. It is important to live the bigger life that God intended for us men and this basecamp allows for both you and your son to experience that bigger life together. It can be difficult to show our sons this bigger life this day in age. Man has been pushed into a smaller world driven by technology, but rest assured your experience at First Tracks will push your relationship with your son and father in heaven to new heights!

You will not meet many men like Jay Heck in your lifetime... I first met him at an ABOB Boot Camp, in Texas. The last time I was with him, we were trekking through the Lyngen Alps (above the Arctic Circle in Norway). After you journey with him for a while...people will not meet many men like you!

Father led me to the Alamo Band of Brothers BASIC Boot Camp in Feb of 2016, where he had so many gifts for me. One of those gifts was meeting Jay Heck, member of ABOB and founder of Being Sons. Jay has been walking the narrow road, the ancient path for over a decade with his ABOB brothers. He welcomes other pilgrims to walk with him, doing so through his monthly Fight Club gatherings, camping adventures and ABOB Boot Camps. Through God's provision and Jay's willingness to share his story over the past year, I've found my own band of brothers. There is something special going on right now in San Antonio, and ground zero is just beyond Jay's cul-de-sac under a century oak with a crackling fire. There men, either first time Fight Clubbers or veterans are learning to fight for their hearts and for the hearts of their families. Or rather we are allowing Father to contend with us, knowing he has good things for us as his Sons. We are Being Sons so we can learn how to Be Sons. And its a beautiful thing - every time. If you are reading these reviews now and considering making the leap and attending a Being Sons or Alamo Band of Brothers event, know this: The enemy will do all he can to keep you away, but the Trinity is greater. And Father has gifts for you here if you can make it off the front lines of this life, take the risk and allow him to Father you. We look forward to seeing you around the fire. Its a safe place, and one of the rules of Fight Club is if you don't yet have anything to say, that is an honorable and respectable place to be. We share stories, and yours is welcome.

I have known Jay for several years and have been blessed by various gatherings he has led. Fight Club is an exceptional event primarily due to its simplicity and "non-event" nature. You will find no religion here, only authentic men sharing their adventure with Jesus.

Fight Club is by far my favorite men's gathering all month! As a pastor I rarely get to unplug, especially during the week. Sitting around the fire pit under the old oak tree with other like minded men is such a refreshment to my soul. I love Jay, his leadership, and taking men from my church to FC!

In early May Jay Heck of the Alamo Band of Brothers put together a long weekend camping/hiking trip for men walking in the Wild at Heart message in Big Bend National Park in west Texas. Having attended the Kilo Wild at Heart Boot Camp ABOB hosted in Feb of 2016 (their 11th Boot Camp), I was invited on this amazing soujorn. My ABOB Boot Camp experience was amazing, so I jumped at the opportunity and am so thankful I did. The camp site afforded amazing views, Carl at Sojourney Expeditions provided an exceptional hiking & camping experience through his passion for God and the wilderness as well as some crazy good food, and Jay led us deeper into the story God has for each of us. The weekend was truly BIG for me for the other attendant pilgrims on the journey as well I think. An abundance of big conversation on big topics, lots of deep belly laughter and quite a few tears were shed as well. A huge thanks to Jay, to Carl, to ABOB, and to my mob of Big Bend mates as well as the whole Wild at Heart team for helping God pierce my heart with the truth of this message. I'd recommend any man in the San Antonio and surrounding area to attend any ABOB event. The guys are real and are passionate about bringing the message and the mission to like hearted men.

I have been to five of the Alamo Band of Brothers (ABOB) boot camps! Every single time I attend, God shows me something new and different. Each of the leaders brings some key element of the puzzle of putting their weekend together. The food, accommodations, and overall facilities are beyond top notch. The facility is an incredible ranch and you can truly feel God’s presence in and around the entire place. During the brief but valued downtime, you can enjoy skeet shooting, fishing, swimming, mountain biking or even indoor basketball. I highly recommend attending a bootcamp that is hosted by the ABOB guys. I’ve been suggesting it to all of my family and friends since the first one I attended in February of 2008.

I have attended both the BASIC and ADVANCED bootcamps. This is the real deal! What really blows me away is the transparency that I see in the ABOB men. There is no pretense of perfection. In fact, it is easy to see imperfections. But somehow, that does not diminish the experience. The "realness" is one of main things that I value. That's when I knew I was among real warriors of God. No facades, only cut to the chase and get on with the real business of being men of God in this world. Each with our own personal walk. But all with the support of a fellowship of men. For the first time in my life, I am starting to have a peace. A release (a trusting). I LOVE how God is awakening my heart! How He is healing the wounds of my heart. Restoring. I am almost 50-years-old, and my heart feels like it is waking up from the dead -- just like the living springtime I see bursting open around me here in Germany!

My soul, mind and heart had always longed to know the truth about my place in this life and in how God saw me. The ABOB Basic Boot camp provided these truths and so much more. I needed to be at this camp more than I could ever admit. I learned that I needed to build on my relationship with God and the Brothers at the camp helped me do that. Christian men being open, honest and courageous seeking God's plan for our lives. It was a blessed and unforgettable 4 days. Come experience this Boot Camp and see how God changes your life! YBIC JCA

Hi all, just want to leave some words about the Boot camp we attended with a group of men from Russia in Feb 2015. You know, it's just a miracle already that we could make it to San Antonio in the middle of crisis that hit our country. It was a miracle that some of us with criminal and drug addicted past could receive American visa... All that trip was a miracle. About the Boot Camp... For us, as Russians, everything was different. We got from winter and Arctic night into the summer and sun. We spent 4 days at Franklin Family ranch, where the Boot Camp was, which is absolutely unfamiliar to us. We spent 4 days with 40 men searching their hearts in the Lord, searching their way in Him. This is very unfamiliar, too. It was a great encouragement to see so many men get together for four days (!!!), who decided to leave their families, leave their jobs and businesses - to spend this precious time with other men, and with the Father! I was already blessed just being there with them. But the greets blessing was to see the Team, to be with the Team, to get to know them. This is indeed a team of very different men, but united with the same passion - to know the Father's heart, and to bring other men to Him. Those were great four days, and great four days followed, when we loaded cars with gear and supplies and drove into the mountains - to practice the knowledge and revelations we received just a couple of days before. We men need to practice things, to taste them, to get real experience of life. Mountains - one of the places where God fathers (this is a new word for me - another blessing from the Camp. Still struggling trying to translate it in Russian in order to express its fullness) us in the most unique and authentic way. Men, just find time, join one of the Boot camps, and you will experience something outstanding, some precious moments you will always remember. We made it all the way from Northern Russia, and we never regret a minute here. Blessings guys.

‘We are men of action, lies do not become us,‘ said Wesley to the six - fingered man, shortly before he was taken to the Pit of Despair. This group of men has taught me how to live in the fullness of truth about what God says about me instead of listening to , and agreeing with, the lies of the enemy. I never understood spiritual warfare. Now, walking with ABOB members both in life and in Boot Camps, I have broken agreement with many lies, opening up a deep well of life. I found my name, which informs everything in my life and has given me the gift of an authentic, practical experience with the living God. Now that's what Vizzini would call ‘INCONCEIVABLE!!!!‘

This weekend truly opened my eyes and helped remove the blinding scales that the enemy had placed over them for so many years. For the first 32 years of my life, I struggled with so many things (anger, anxiety, fear, pride, etc.) and this weekend really helped me understand that it was because of things I was taught and conditioned to and nothing that God intended for me. This is not your typical holly huddle men’s retreat. The weekend isn't designed for you to share anything with other attendees or staffers, it's all about learning God's purpose for your life as a man. You will never be asked to share, discuss, or talk about anything or to any one....in fact there are a lot of times where they ask that no one talk at all. The restoration that has taken place in my heart and home is indescribable and I desire this for every man I know. Deuteronomy 30 vs. 3 sums up my experience with ABOB perfectly God, your God, will restore everything you lost; he'll have compassion on you; he'll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered. Your life will never be the same.

Committed Men!! I have been to many retreats with the ABOB team. This retreat is a safe place for men to go and find, to discover, to be surprised or to begin a journey to do all these things that will take us to the real treasures of Life. Real Men with Real Stories that begin to show you with their stories, where there are ""hidden things" the enemy doesn't want men to know - the very things that give us LIFE. If you want to know what has been hidden or stolen from you - go! And as my friend would say - you don't have to talk to anyone, hug anyone or talk if you don't want to. It is a place where you learn some Truths and can quietly begin a new adventure - These men have changed my life. God has a plan for each and everyone of us. Go discover yours.

ABOB's "BASIC" weekend had an indescribable impact on my life, it was the perfect avenue to get me off the fence and finally let God lead me and help me to become the man he sees me as. The messages and experiences shared by Jay and Allan and Brian are all so easy to relate to, and are presented in such a manner, that there's no pressure, they leave it in God's hands. I would highly recommend this weekend to anyone that is "on the fence" as I was, you just might find a few answers to some of those questions in your heart.
